Why This Recipe is so good

  • If you love matcha lattes, adding a scoop or two of protein powder helps you to easily hit your protein goals. It makes this strawberry oat milk matcha latte extra creamy and delicious and it keeps you fuller for longer because it contains 22 grams of protein.
  • This strawberry protein matcha latte can be made dairy free by using your favorite plant based protein powder and dairy free oat milk.
  • Coffee shop matcha lattes can quickly get pretty pricey. This homemade iced matcha latte tastes better than a coffee shop and it’s cheaper too! A bag of ceremonial grade matcha can last for 1 – 2 months and it can make dozens of strawberry matcha lattes, all without any natural flavors, preservatives or thickeners.

Recipe Ingredients

Ingredients for strawberry protein matcha latte on a counter.
  • Fresh strawberries – A few ripe strawberries are mulled then topped with ice and the matcha latte. You can blend the strawberries so there aren’t any chunks or you make a strawberry cold foam instead.
  • Matcha powder – Ceremonial-grade matcha powder is the best to use when making matcha lattes. It has a bright green color with a smooth but bright grassy flavor. Culinary-grade matcha powders tend to be brownish-green in color and have a bitter flavor.
  • Protein powder – I used this bourbon vanilla whey protein powder. It tastes amazing and makes this matcha latte taste like a strawberry matcha protein shake.
  • Oat milk – Oat milk makes the creamiest matcha lattes and it’s perfect if you are dairy free or vegan. Feel free to substitute with your favorite milk of choice.

How to Make Strawberry Protein Matcha Latte

All ingredients, measurements, and instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  1. Muddle the strawberries in a serving glass. Then top with ice. Set aside.
  2. In a mason jar add milk and protein powder. Top with a lid then shake until combined. Set aside.
  3. In a small bowl or matcha bowl whisk together warm water and matcha powder using a bamboo whisk or a milk frother until the matcha is smooth and frothy.
  4. Pour protein milk over the muddled strawberries and ice then pour over the matcha. Stir and enjoy!

Tips and Tricks

Using a cocktail muddler makes mashing the strawberries so much easier.

Add the milk to a jar with a lid or a protein shaker bottle to combine the protein powder. I found an electric milk frother didn’t combine the protein powder properly and left it chunky.

Add more sweetener if you enjoy sweeter drinks. My protein powder was sweetened with stevia and I found it to be sweet enough for me. If you are using unsweetened protein powder add sugar, maple syrup or a drizzle of honey as desired.
