Why This Recipe is So Good
This Strawberry basil simple syrup makes the best mocktail served over ice with sparkling water. Mocktails are my favorite summer drinks, and having simple syrups ready to go in the fridge, like this Honey Lavender Simple Syrup, Dragon Fruit Simple Syrup, or Passion Fruit Simple Syrup using Frozen Puree, makes making a refreshing mocktail a breeze.
This basil infused syrup doesn’t contain any dyes, fillers, colorings, or artificial flavors. It tastes like real strawberries and fresh basil.
Strawberry Basil Simple Syrup Ingredients

Strawberries – Fresh chopped strawberries naturally color this syrup giving it a gorgeous red color. This basil simple syrup is a great way to use up fresh strawberries before they go bad. Frozen strawberries will work too!
Fresh basil leaves – Fresh basil is so aromatic and delicious. Look for bright green leaves with a strong basil smell. Trader Joes and Whole Foods have fresh basil at a good price.
Filtered water and sugar – An equal amount of sugar and water creates a simple syrup that can be used to sweeten all your favorite drinks without leaving sugar crystals at the bottom of your glass.
How to Make Strawberry Basil Syrup
All ingredients, measurements, and instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

- Add rinsed and chopped strawberries and basil to a medium sauce pot with sugar and water.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle boil on medium heat, this takes about 10 minutes.
- Remove the pot from the heat, cover then allow the syrup to steep for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to really infuse into the syrup.
- Strain the syrup into a medium-sized bowl using a fine mesh strainer, then pour the syrup into a pint-sized mason jar. Use a spoon to gently press the strawberries and basil to get as much of their juice out. Discard berries and basil.
- Use strawberry syrup immediately or store in the fridge until you are ready to enjoy.
