Strawberry Basil Mocktail

This Strawberry Basil Mocktail is so light and refreshing and it tastes every bit like summer. A homemade strawberry basil syrup is combined with ice and sparkling water to make the best summery mocktail. It’s non-alcoholic and super easy to make with 5 ingredients.

The strawberry basil syrup takes 10 – 15 minutes to make and it makes this strawberry basil mocktail taste sooo good. Strawberries and basil are such a delicious combination and their flavors are so strong and delicious in this syrup.

Strawberry basil syrup – Fresh or frozen strawberries and fresh basil leaves are steeped in a simple syrup to make a sweet and savory strawberry basil syrup. 

Sparkling water – Use your favorite sparkling water or club soda. Chill it first!

How to Make a Strawberry Basil Mocktail

All ingredients, measurements, and instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Make strawberry basil syrup:

Add chopped strawberries, rinsed and chopped basil, sugar and water into a medium saucepot.  Bring syrup to a gentle boil, this takes about 10 minutes then remove the pot from the heat. Cover and allow the strawberries and basil to infuse in the syrup for 30 minutes.

Strain the syrup into a bowl or air-tight container. Gently press the strawberries to release more of their juice then discard berries and basil. Allow syrup to cool then use immediately or store in an airtight container until you’re ready to use it. 

Make Strawberry basil mocktail:

Fill a short glass halfway with ice then add strawberry basil syrup then top off with sparking water. Stir then top with diced strawberries and fresh basil if you like.

Equipment

  • 1 Medium saucepot
  • 1 Fine mesh strainer
  • 1 Pint-sized mason jar

Ingredients

Strawberry basil syrup

  • 1 cup strawberries roughly chopped 6 – 7 large strawberries
  • ¼ cup fresh basil leaves rinsed and roughly chopped
  • ½ cup granulated sugar cane sugar or white sugar
  • ½ cup filtered water

Strawberry basil mocktail

  • 2 ounces strawberry basil syrup 5 tablespoons, depending on your taste
  • Ice for serving
  • 4 ounces sparkling water chilled, or 1/2 cup
  • 1 – 2 strawberries diced for garnish

Instructions

Make strawberry basil syrup:

  • You can use fresh or frozen strawberries. If fresh, rinse them really well then remove the stems and roughly chop them. If using frozen mash, the strawberries halfway through cooking to allow them to release their juices better.
  • Add chopped strawberries, rinsed and chopped basil, sugar and water into a medium saucepot. Bring syrup to a gentle boil, this takes about 10 minutes then remove the pot from the heat. Cover and allow the strawberries and basil to infuse in the syrup for 30 minutes.
    1 cup strawberries, ¼ cup fresh basil leaves, ½ cup granulated sugar, ½ cup filtered water
  • Strain the syrup into a bowl or air-tight container. Gently press the strawberries to release more of their juice then discard berries and basil. Allow syrup to cool then use immediately or store in an airtight container until you’re ready to use it.

How To Store/ Make Ahead

Strawberry basil syrup yields 1 cup of syrup. Store in the fridge in an air-tight container for up to 2 weeks.
