This creamy Protein Matcha Latte tastes like a delicious green tea shake. Ready in 5 minutes, this protein matcha latte recipe is made with 22 grams of protein with no added sugar. Use your favorite vanilla protein powder and this drink is better than any coffee shop!

- 3 tablespoons warm water
- 1 ½ teaspoons matcha powder ceremonial grade
- 6 - 8 ounces oat milk almond milk, coconut milk, or dairy milk
- 1 serving of vanilla protein powder mine was 2 scoops for 22 grams of protein (Simply Tera's Whey Protein Powder Vanilla Bourbon)
- Ice for serving
Whisk matcha: In a small cup or matcha bowl, add warm water and matcha powder. Use a milk frother or bamboo whisk to whisk the matcha until it’s nice and frothy.
Add protein powder: Add milk and your protein powder of choice to mason jar. Top with a lid then shake to combine. Alternatively, you can use a milk frother to whisk it really well so there aren’t any chunks of protein powder. Then add ice.
Pour your prepared matcha mixture into the glass with the milk then stir to combine and enjoy.
How To Store/ Make Ahead
Best enjoyed immediately. If you want to make it ahead a few hours, whisk everything together then store refrigerated without the ice.
Tips and Tricks
- Whisking protein powder to avoid chunks: I found it easier to whisk the protein powder in half of the milk with an electric milk frother otherwise, it was a little chunky. Continue whisking until smooth and frothy without chunks or add the milk and protein powder to a shaker bottle, shaking until combined, then pour into a glass.
- Sweetness: The protein powder I used is naturally sweetened with stevia powder so this protein matcha is lightly sweetened. If you want to make a sweeter drink, add additional stevia, sugar/sugar syrup, or honey. Or try switching up the flavor of this latte by adding this Vanilla Brown Sugar Syrup, Blueberry Simple Syrup or Honey Lavender Simple Syrup.
Variations
- Vegan protein matcha latte: Use vegan or dairy free milk and a vegan protein powder.
- Vanilla: In addition to using a vanilla protein powder add ½ teaspoon of pure vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste to boost the vanilla flavor.
- Use a protein milk or protein shake instead of protein powder and regular milk/dairy free milk.
- Use chocolate protein powder to switch up the flavor.
